Golden Paste and Milk
Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you have probably seen that bright yellow gold drink made of turmeric and some kind of milk. This is my take on the tasty beverage…
Turmeric is the new darling of the alternative health movement which is purported to have anti-inflammatory properties. What is even better is that it tastes pretty darn good.
It’s basically hot milk with a spoonful of turmeric paste. There are a handful of ways to make the Golden Paste but my favorite way is with coconut oil.
Makes about 1.5 cups of paste
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup turmeric powder
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1 to 2 teaspoons black pepper, freshly ground if possible
I use a small saucepan. Then I combine water and turmeric and bring to a boil. I turn down the heat to medium and cook until it turns to pasty consistency. Take off heat.
Add coconut oil and black pepper and stir till well blended.
Store in jar in fridge for up to three weeks.
Ways to serve: Stir a heaping teaspoon of turmeric paste in a cup of hot milk. Add honey or your favorite sweetener, if desired. Add spices like cinnamon or I like pumpkin pie spice.
TIP: For a different taste altogether, try this recipe. It is my one – two punch.
